The cellar spider is a small, helpful hunter. People often call it a daddy long-legs.

This spider has eight long, thin legs. These legs are five to six times its body length. The body has two main parts. The front part is the prosoma. The back part is the opisthosoma, or abdomen. This abdomen holds the spider's heart and silk glands.

These spiders like warm, dark places. You might find them in a cellar or a garage. They often live inside human buildings. To stay safe, the spider uses a trick called whirling. It spins its body in a fast circle on its web. This makes it hard for a predator to see it. This spider is harmless to humans. Its bite might feel like a tiny sting. But it does not cause any real harm.
