Philip Pullman is a famous English writer. He is best known for his fantasy trilogy, His Dark Materials. This series includes Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. In these books, people have souls that look like animals called dæmons. His stories have sold more than 49 million copies.

Pullman loved stories from a young age. His grandfather taught him to love telling tales. He also found a great love for poetry. He felt that poetry gave words color and shape. Poetry even made his heart beat faster. These feelings helped him become a writer.

He lived in South Australia as a boy. There, he saw the largest flood ever recorded in that place. He later used this memory in his book, La Belle Sauvage. This book is part of a new series called The Book of Dust.

Pullman wants all readers to enjoy his work. He does not want to write silly books for kids. He wants adults to find joy in his stories too. He believes that good stories can entertain everyone.
