Philip Larkin was a famous English writer who lived from 1922 to 1985.

He was a poet, a novelist, and a librarian. People often remember him for his very honest poems. His writing often looked at feelings, places, and how people relate to one another. Some people called his style "glum accuracy" because he was so truthful about life.

His father was the City Treasurer of Coventry. As a young boy, Larkin was educated at home by his mother and sister. He later went to school and eventually studied English at Oxford University. In 1943, he finished his degree with top honors.
