This name comes from a Greek winged goddess of victory. A student named Carolyn Davidson made the famous "swoosh" logo. She was paid $35 for the design in 1971. Knight said at first that he did not love the logo. However, he said it would eventually grow on him.
Knight has also been a leader in the movie world. He bought Will Vinton Studios in the late 1990s. He later changed the name to Laika in 2003. He invested $180 million into this new studio. This helped them make the successful film Coraline in 2009. His son, Travis Knight, became the leader of the studio.
Giving back to others is a huge part of his life. Knight is a very generous philanthropist. He has given billions of dollars to help schools. He gave $105 million to the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He also gave over one billion dollars to the University of Oregon.
