This theme of isolation is a special part of his work.

Weir's way of working involves bringing many talented people together. He often takes a book and turns it into a movie. For example, he made a film from a novel by Joan Lindsay. He also worked with many famous actors to bring his ideas to life. He directed Harrison Ford in the thriller Witness. He also worked with Robin Williams in the drama Dead Poets Society. By choosing different actors and stories, he makes each movie feel unique.

His career began in Australia during a special time for films. This period was called the Australian New Wave. He started by working at a television station in Sydney. He even made small, experimental short films to practice his skills. His first big feature film was a comedy called The Cars That Ate Paris in 1974. Later, he made the famous mystery Picnic at Hanging Rock in 1975. This film helped make Australian movies popular all over the world.
