Peppa Pig is a highly successful British animated television series designed for preschool children. Created by Neville Astley and Mark Baker, the show centers on Peppa, an anthropomorphic piglet. Anthropomorphic means the characters possess human-like qualities, such as wearing clothes, living in houses, and speaking English. The series follows Peppa’s daily life alongside her family and a diverse group of animal friends. Each episode is a short segment lasting approximately five minutes. Most stories focus on relatable, everyday activities like visiting playgroups, playing at playgrounds, or seeing relatives.

The animation process uses a specific software called CelAction2D to bring the characters to life. While the animals behave like people, they retain certain biological traits or stereotypes. For example, the pigs enjoy jumping in muddy puddles, and rabbits live in burrows. The characters also make typical animal noises while they speak. To express emotions, the animators use visual cues like blushing when a character feels embarrassed. They also show happiness, irritation, or bewilderment through their movements. A narrator, John Sparkes, provides commentary to reinforce the humor and action. He often uses the phrase "Oh, dear" when a character faces a minor misfortune. Most episodes conclude with the characters falling onto their backs while laughing.

Since its debut, the production and voice cast of the series have evolved significantly. The show first aired on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom on 31 May 2004. Over the years, several different performers have provided the voice for Peppa. Lily Snowden-Fine voiced the character in the first series, followed by Cecily Bloom in the second. Harley Bird took over the role in the special "Peppa's Christmas" and continued through several seasons. Amelie Bea Smith and Harriette Cox have also served as the voice of Peppa. The production studios have also changed. Originally produced by Astley Baker Davies and later Entertainment One, the show is now produced by Karrot Animation and Hasbro Entertainment.

The Peppa Pig franchise has expanded into a massive global business. In 2019, the company Hasbro acquired Entertainment One for US$3.8 billion. This acquisition made Peppa Pig one of Hasbro's primary brands. The series has reached a massive audience, broadcasting in over 180 different countries. The popularity of the brand is reflected in its commercial success. In 2010, the brand's merchandise sales in the United Kingdom exceeded £200 million. This was double the amount earned in 2009. By that year, Peppa Pig had become the top preschool property in the total toy market. The franchise currently manages over 1,000 licensees worldwide.

Fans can experience Peppa Pig through many different types of media. Beyond television, there are numerous books, such as "Peppa Meets the Queen." The series also features "Cinema Experiences," which are special screenings of new episodes in movie theaters. These events have been quite successful; for instance, the 2015 release "Peppa Pig: The Golden Boots" grossed £2,326,328 as of December 2015. Video games are also available for platforms like the Nintendo DS, Wii, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Titles include "Peppa Pig: The Game" and "My Friend Peppa Pig." Even the Royal Mail participated in the celebrations by issuing eight commemorative postage stamps in May 2024.

Physical attractions allow children to interact with the characters in person. Peppa Pig World opened at Paultons Park in England in 2011 and includes nine rides and a water splash park. There are also "Peppa Pig World of Play" indoor venues located in cities like Shanghai, Chicago, and the Netherlands. In some regions, specialized theme parks exist, such as the Peppa Pig Theme Park in the Legoland Florida Resort. A standalone European park, Peppa Pig Park Günzburg, opened in Germany in May 2024.

These locations provide immersive environments based on the show's settings.

The brand's influence extends into retail and large-scale resort planning. Hasbro announced plans for a dedicated Peppa Pig retail store at the Battersea Power Station. This store offers exclusive merchandise and opportunities for fans to meet the characters. Furthermore, a large-scale Peppa Pig-themed resort was planned for Sichuan. This massive project includes a theme park, a hotel, and a Sea Life aquarium. From small toys and stationery to large international theme parks, the franchise connects various industries. It remains a central part of global preschool culture through its constant expansion and new content.
