He could anticipate where his opponents would move before they even did it. This helped him stay ahead of the other players on the pitch. He was famous for his amazing goals, like the one called "the goal of the plaque." This goal was so beautiful that a plaque was put on the stadium wall to remember it. He even had a goal that was so special he asked for a computer animation to be made of it. His ability to score almost one goal per game made him a global star.

His journey started in a very humble way in Brazil.

He was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in 1940 in Três Corações. As a young boy, he grew up in poverty in Bauru. He could not afford a real football to practice with. Instead, he played with a grapefruit or a sock stuffed with newspaper. He also played a fast version of football called futsal. This helped him learn to think very quickly on his feet. Playing futsal gave him the confidence to play against adults when he was only 14.

Pelé achieved many incredible records during his long career.
