He was famous for his amazing skill with a ball. People remember him as one of the greatest players of the 20th century. FIFA even named him the best Asian male footballer of all time. He was born in the Philippines in 1896. His family moved to Barcelona, Spain, when he was only three years old. He became a hero for both his home in the Philippines and his home in Spain.

Playing football was his great passion. He started his career with a local club called FC Galeno. This team was made of medical students who played in a hospital courtyard. In 1912, a scout saw him play and brought him to FC Barcelona. He made his first big game at just 15 years old. In that very first match, he scored three goals. This made him the youngest player to ever score for the club.

Later, he returned to Spain to continue his football career. He had to recover from malaria before he could play at his best again.

Alcántara achieved many incredible things during his 15-year career. He won 19 different trophies, including 10 Catalan League titles. He scored 395 goals in 399 matches for Barcelona. This was a massive club record that lasted for 87 years. It was finally broken by Lionel Messi in 2014. He was so powerful that people called him "El Rompe Redes." This name means "the net breaker" in Spanish.
