Running a marathon requires great practice and steady effort. Paula learned many skills through different types of racing. She competed in cross country, which involves running on natural ground. She also ran on tracks and on long roads. To prepare, she worked closely with her coach, Alex Stanton. He helped her build her strength over many years. She even learned to manage her breathing during difficult moments. In one race, she won despite a panic attack caused by her nose tape falling off.

Paula's journey began in the small town of Davenham. She was born on 17 December 1973. Her father was a keen amateur marathon runner. He inspired her to start running when she was only seven years old.
