He was born in Hamburg, Germany. His family had run a bank for a long time. In 1902, he moved to New York. He became an American citizen in 1911.

Warburg had big ideas for American banks. He thought the system was not strong enough. He wanted a central bank to help banks work together. This would help banks share money when needed. He wrote many papers to explain his plans.

In 1907, a big financial panic hit the country. This made people listen to his ideas. He met with leaders to talk about reform. These talks helped lead to the Federal Reserve Act. This law created the Federal Reserve system. Warburg served on its first board. He was also its second vice chairman.

Warburg was a very busy man. He worked for many companies and groups. In 1929, he warned about risky stock trading. He died in New York in 1932. Many people remember him for his work with money.
