He spent his life sharing the wonders of space with people everywhere. He was a writer, a researcher, and a very well-known television presenter. People often recognized him by his fast way of speaking and his monocle. A monocle is a single lens worn over one eye. He used it because his right eye was weaker than his left. Patrick was truly a man who lived for the stars.

His journey with space began when he was just six years old. By the age of eleven, he joined the British Astronomical Association. At fourteen, he even helped run a small observatory in East Grinstead.

During World War II, he served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force. He trained as a navigator and a pilot in Canada. After the war, he chose to teach and write instead of going to university. He wanted to stand on his own two feet.

Patrick became a master at looking at the Moon. He wrote his first book about the Moon in 1953. He even discovered and named something called transient lunar phenomena. These are short-lived glowing areas that appear on the Moon's surface. He also created the Caldwell catalogue to help others find star clusters and galaxies. This list contains 109 different objects for people to observe. His deep knowledge made him a leader in the world of science.

He is most famous for hosting the TV show "The Sky at Night."

He started this program on the BBC in 1957. He hosted it for many years until he died in 2012. This made him the longest-serving TV presenter in the world. He even broadcast from his own home when he had trouble traveling. He saw many big moments, like the Apollo Moon landings. He was also the first Westerner to see photos from the Russian Luna 3 probe.

Patrick was a man of many different talents. He was a self-taught musician who played the piano and the xylophone. He was also a composer and wrote many fiction books for young people. In 1982, scientists named an asteroid 2602 Moore to honor him. He loved the glory of a total solar eclipse more than almost anything else. Even when things were hard, like a tornado hitting his observatory, he kept going. He spent his whole life helping others see the beauty of the universe.
