How do we share things well? An Italian man named Vilfredo Pareto studied this. He was an economist. He looked at how people use goods and money.

Sometimes we can change how we share. We can give more to one person. This is a Pareto improvement. It is only a good change if no one else loses anything. We want to help one person without hurting anyone else.

What if we cannot help anyone else? If every change would hurt someone, we reach a special spot. This spot is called Pareto efficient. It means we use our resources in the best way possible.

This idea is not just for money. Engineers and scientists use it too. They use it to pick the best choices. They look at many goals at once. They want to find a choice that is great. They do not want to pick a choice that fails in other ways. This helps people make smart plans in many different fields.
