The physical landscape of Parbhani is shaped by ancient geological processes. The district is covered by Deccan lava flows. These flows formed horizontally bedded sheets of basaltic composition. VNMAU was officially established on May 18, 1972. It was created to help the Marathwada region grow through agrarian research. The university even helped develop the 'Gaorani' breed of Indian cotton.
