Paranoia

life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Paranoia is a way of thinking. It happens when a person believes everything is about them. They might feel like everyone is watching them. They may even think people are talking about them. Some people have persecutory beliefs. This means they feel a threat is coming for them. They might think others are out to get them.

This way of thinking can be caused by many things. Stress and fear play a big role. A person might feel powerless or sad. They may also feel they have no control. Some people face hard times at home. Growing up in a strict or unstable place can help cause it. Even things in the body can matter. High blood pressure might change how blood moves in the brain. Some drugs can also cause these feelings.

Paranoia is different from a phobia. A phobia is a fear, but it does not usually involve blame. People with paranoia might also distrust others. They may make false claims about people. This can make it hard to keep friends or stay in a marriage. Doctors use medicine to help. They also use talking therapy to help people feel better.
