Scientists in this field are called paleontologists. They mostly study fossils to learn about ancient life.

Fossils are the remains of living things. Most fossils are made from hard parts like bones or teeth. These parts turn into stone through a slow way called fossilization.

Sometimes, fossils are not body parts. They can be footprints or burrows. We call these trace fossils. They show how an animal moved or lived.

Paleontologists use fossils to solve many mysteries. They can tell how animals looked. They can also see how the Earth changed over time. This helps them understand extinction. Extinction is when a whole group of living things disappears forever.

This science helps us see the history of life. It connects to biology, which is the study of living things. It also connects to geology, which is the study of rocks. By working together, these sciences show us how life has changed.
