Oswald de Andrade was a famous writer from Brazil. He was born in São Paulo in 1890. He wrote many poems and books. He was also a critic. This means he studied and talked about art. Oswald helped many artists with their work. He was part of a group called the Group of Five. This group helped start a new style of art in Brazil.

Oswald had a very big idea. He called it Antropofagia. This is a word for a special way of using ideas. He said Brazil should take culture from other places. Then, Brazil should change those ideas. This makes the culture its own. It is like eating a meal and making it part of you. He used this idea to help Brazil feel proud. He wanted to stand up to old ideas from Europe.

His ideas changed many things. They helped new music and movies grow. One famous line he wrote was "Tupi or not Tupi." This line celebrated the Tupi people. Oswald was a bold man. He often shared his views in a loud way. Some people even argued with him. He died in 1954. People still study his work today.
