Males also have much larger dorsal fins, which can grow to be 6 feet high. These fins look like elongated triangles, while female fins are more curved. Their pectoral fins are large and rounded, functioning much like paddles to help them swim.

To find food, orcas use a sophisticated biological sonar called echolocation. They emit rapid clicks into the water and listen for the returning echoes. This allows them to detect the location and specific characteristics of prey.

Once they find prey, their powerful jaws take over. Their teeth are incredibly strong and designed for a firm grip. When the mouth closes, the upper teeth fall into the gaps between the lower teeth. This structure helps them hold onto slippery prey. The front teeth are even angled slightly forward and outward to protect them from sudden jerking movements.
