The Centre Task Force went to Oran. Their ships hit shallow water. They had to use big guns to make Oran surrender. The Eastern Task Force went to Algiers. They met less trouble. They moved inland on the first day.

At first, the French forces in the area fought back. But a leader named Admiral François Darlan later chose to work with the Allies. This helped bring peace to the region. This mission was a big step in the war.
