Onuris was a god from ancient Egypt.

He was a god of war. This meant he helped the Egyptian army. People held big festivals to honor him. They even acted out mock battles during these times.

Onuris had many different looks. He was often shown as a man with a beard. He wore a robe and a crown with four feathers. He might hold a spear or a lance.

Sometimes, he was shown with the head of a lion. This showed his power and strength.

His name has a special meaning. It means "one who leads back the distant one." Myths say he brought his wife, Mehit, from a land called Nubia. Some people also thought he was a sky bearer. In this way, he was linked to the god Shu.

Many important people served him. There were high priests who led his worship. Some of these priests lived during the time of kings like Seti I. Even the Greeks had a god like him. They called their war god Ares. Some stories say Ares even took the form of a fish in Egypt.
