Nuri Bilge Ceylan is a famous artist from Turkey. He is a director, a writer, and a photographer. He also works as an actor in some of his films. People all over the world watch his movies to see how he tells stories. His work is very important in the world of art. He has won many big prizes for his skill.

Ceylan has a very specific way of making his films. He does not use fake sets built in a studio. Instead, he uses real, natural settings. He often uses long takes, which are shots that last a long time without cutting. He also uses silence to make the audience feel uneasy. Sometimes he films his characters from behind. This helps the audience wonder about the character's true feelings.

Ceylan's journey into art began long before he made movies. He was born on January 26, 1959, in Istanbul, Turkey. He spent much of his childhood in Yenice, Çanakkale. He studied chemistry and electrical engineering at different universities. However, he became famous as a young photographer first. In 1989, he won a national contest with Kodak. This allowed him to take photos in London and Kathmandu.

His film career has reached many great heights. In 1995, his short film Koza was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. His film Uzak, which means "Distant," won the Grand Prix in 2002. In 2014, his movie Winter Sleep won the Palme d'Or. This was the first Turkish film to win that top prize since 1982. Six of his films have even been chosen to represent Turkey for the Academy Awards.

Ceylan's movies often look at the human experience. He explores themes like how people feel alone or how life can feel repetitive. His film The Wild Pear Tree tells a story about a writer and his father. Another film, About Dry Grasses, follows a young teacher in a small village. He often worked with amateur actors and even his own family members. He is now married to Ebru Ceylan, who is also a filmmaker.
