Nora Roberts is a famous American author who loves telling stories. She has written more than 225 novels for people to enjoy.

Most people know her for romance novels, which are stories about love. She also writes exciting books about police work. For these stories, she uses a different name called J. D. Robb. The initials J. D. come from her two sons, Jason and Dan. Robb is just a shorter way to say her last name, Robertson.

Writing is a job that requires a lot of hard work. Roberts does not wait for a special feeling to start writing. Instead, she writes for eight hours every single day. She even works while she is on vacation!

She usually starts with a single idea or a special character. Then, she writes a short first draft to get the basics down. Next, she writes a second draft to add color and detail. Finally, she polishes the book before sending it to her agent.

Her journey as a writer began during a snowy blizzard. It was February 1979, and there were three feet of snow outside.

Because she had to stay inside with her two young boys, she started to write. At first, publishers said no to her stories. One publisher even told her they already had an American writer. But Roberts did not give up on her dream. She published her first novel, Irish Thoroughbred, in 1981.

Roberts has achieved many amazing things in her long career. Her books have been sold in 35 different countries.

By the year 2009, 400 million copies of her books were in print. She has appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list many times. In fact, 124 of her books have been on that list. She even won 21 RITA Awards, which are very special honors for romance writers. One big award is even named after her now.

Her life is full of many different interests and connections. She is a big fan of baseball and has been honored by a team.

She also cares deeply about helping others through charity. When she won a legal case about her work, she gave the money to groups that help people learn to read. Roberts shows that being a writer is about more than just words. It is about hard work, staying true to yourself, and sharing stories with the world.
