society Maturity 9-11 Next article →

A nonprofit organization works to help a group or the public. They do not work to make profit for owners. If they have extra money, they must use it for their mission. This mission is their main goal.

These groups can be many things. They can be schools, hospitals, or churches. They can also be social clubs or foundations. Some nonprofits help people through medical research. Others provide aid and education to communities.

Nonprofits need money to do their work. They get money from many places. They may get donations from people. They may get grants from the government. Some sell things to raise money.

People also give their time. These helpers are called volunteers. In the United States, millions of adults volunteer. This help adds great value to communities.

Trust is very important for these groups. They must be honest and open about their money. They must show how they spend what they receive. This helps the public feel sure about their work. Being professional helps them stay strong and reach their goals.
