Powdered creamer can stay in a cupboard. Liquid creamer must stay in the fridge after you open it. Most creamers do not have lactose. This is a type of milk sugar. However, many use sodium caseinate. This is a protein from milk. Because of this, some people do not eat it. Vegans may avoid it. Some Jewish groups also follow rules about milk.

People worked hard to make these products. In 1943, Rex Diamond studied soy protein. He wanted to make a soy cream. He did not want it to form lumps in coffee. In 1950, Mocha Mix became the first commercial creamer. Later, the Carnation Company made Coffee-Mate. This brand used vegetable oil instead of milk fat. It helped the creamer mix easily into hot drinks. It was released in 1961. Many people enjoy using creamer to change their drinks.
