The most famous was the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He also faced challenges like the Suez Crisis and the U-2 incident. These events showed how much the world was changing.

His mistakes in farming and the Cuban Missile Crisis weakened him. On October 14, 1964, other leaders removed him from his position. He spent his retirement writing long books about his life. Some of these stories were published in 1970. He died in 1971 at his home, known as a dacha. His life went from a poor village to the highest seat in the land.
