She wanted to find ways to make life fairer for everyone.

Krupskaya used education to change the world. She studied the ideas of Leo Tolstoy about teaching. Tolstoy believed that teachers and students should have a close bond. He also thought people should live simple lives without too many luxuries. Krupskaya followed these ideas in her own life. She chose to dress modestly and kept her home very simple.

She also studied Marxism in secret discussion groups. These groups helped her learn how to work for political change.

Her personal life was tied to the history of Russia. In February 1894, she met Vladimir Lenin at a study group. They both shared many of the same political goals. The government arrested both of them in 1896 for their activities. In 1898, Krupskaya joined Lenin in exile in Siberia. They married so that she could stay with him there.

After the Russian Revolution in 1917, Krupskaya held many important jobs. She worked hard to build a new school system. From 1929 to 1939, she was the deputy education commissar. This means she was a high-level leader for schools. She also focused on making libraries better for all people.
