Niki Lauda was a famous racing driver from Austria.

He was known for his great skill and focus. Lauda won three Formula One World Championship titles during his career. He also won 25 different Grands Prix. At one time, he held the record for the most podium finishes. A podium is when a driver finishes in the top three. He remains the only driver to win championships with both Ferrari and McLaren.

Lauda worked very hard to reach the top. He started racing in small karts. Later, he moved into Formula Vee and sports cars. His career hit a slow point for a while. To keep going, he took out a £30,000 bank loan. This money helped him join the March team in 1971. He later used another loan to join the BRM team in 1973. Eventually, he joined Ferrari in 1974 after a teammate spoke well of him.

The crash caused him severe burns to his head and hands. He also breathed in hot, toxic gases that hurt his lungs. Lauda suffered scarring on his face and lost part of his ear. He often wore a cap to cover these scars. Even after this, he returned to racing just six weeks later. He finished fourth in a race at Monza.
