Niels Bohr was a famous Danish physicist who changed how we see the world.

He spent his life studying the tiny building blocks of everything. This work helped him win the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922. Bohr was also a deep thinker and a philosopher. He wanted to understand the very rules of nature. His ideas helped many other scientists learn about the universe.

Bohr is most famous for his model of the atom.

In this model, electrons move in fixed paths called orbits. These orbits circle a center called the nucleus. Bohr said that these orbits have different energy levels. An electron can jump from a high energy level to a lower one. When it makes this jump, it releases a small amount of energy. This idea helped explain how atoms interact with light.

Bohr grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was born on October 7, 1885. His father, Christian Bohr, was a professor of physiology. Niels loved sports and played football as a goalkeeper. He studied physics at the University of Copenhagen. In 1905, he won a gold medal for his science work. He even made his own glassware to finish his experiments.

Bohr's work was very important for many reasons. He predicted a new element called hafnium. This element was named after the Latin name for his home city. Later, a new element called bohrium was named after him. He founded the Institute of Theoretical Physics in 1920. This place is now called the Niels Bohr Institute.

Many things in science connect back to Bohr's big ideas. Even though newer models exist, his work is still taught in schools. His idea of complementarity says things can have two different properties. For example, something can act like a wave or a particle. This helps us understand the strange rules of the tiny atomic world. Bohr showed us that science is about asking big questions. He helped build the foundation for modern physics.
