It shows the face and neck of a queen named Nefertiti. She was the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten. People all over the world see her as a symbol of beauty. Her face has long, elegant eyebrows and a slender nose. Many people think she is one of the most beautiful faces from history.

Because she is so well-known, many artists have made copies of her.

The bust is made using a very careful way of working. It has a core made of limestone, which is a type of stone. A sculptor covered this stone with layers of painted stucco. Stucco is a material used to coat surfaces. The right eye is very detailed. It has an iris made of quartz and black paint. This part is held in place with beeswax.

The left eye is different because it is missing its quartz part. Some experts think the sculptor left it unfinished on purpose.

This artwork was likely made around 1345 BC. A sculptor named Thutmose is believed to have created it. He worked in his workshop in a place called Tell-el Amarna.

An archaeological team from Germany found the bust in 1912. The team was led by a man named Ludwig Borchardt. They discovered it while they were digging in the sculptor's old workshop. It was found along with other unfinished pieces of art.

There are many interesting facts about how the bust looks and was found. It is a tall sculpture that wears a blue crown. This is often called the Nefertiti cap crown. The colors used were very specific. For example, the blue came from powdered frit and copper oxide. The skin color was made from red chalk.

In 2006, scientists used CT scans to look inside the stone. They found tiny wrinkles carved into the inner core of the face.

Today, the bust lives in the Neues Museum in Berlin. About 500,000 people visit her every year.

However, there is a long argument about where the bust should stay. Egypt has asked for the bust to be returned to their country. They say laws prevented such important items from leaving Egypt. Germany says they own it because of an official agreement. This debate is part of a larger talk about history and museums.
