The Nandas were very wealthy. They made a new way to use money. They used coins called karshapanas.

This helped the kings collect taxes from the people.

Some stories say the first Nanda king was a barber. Other texts say he was a leader of robbers. This made him look different from other kings. Many people did not like the Nanda rulers. The kings took too much money through taxes. They were also seen as unkind.

The Nanda army was very big and strong. Greek writers said it was five times larger than Alexander the Great's army. Alexander's soldiers were tired from long wars. They did not want to fight the Nandas. This stopped Alexander from moving further into India. Later, a man named Chandragupta Maurya took over. He overthrew the last Nanda king, Dhana Nanda. This started the Maurya Empire.
