They are famous for their language called Nahuatl. This language is very important in the Americas. In fact, it is the third most spoken Indigenous language in the whole region. Many people use it to communicate with each other.

Speaking Nahuatl is a way to share a culture. The name "Nahua" comes from a word meaning clear or easy to hear. This word describes someone who speaks their own language well. Today, about 1.6 million people speak Nahuatl in Mexico. Many of these people also speak Spanish. This means they can use two different languages.

In some places, like the state of Guerrero, many people speak only Nahuatl. However, in most states, more than 95 percent of speakers also know Spanish.

The history of the Nahua began a long time ago. They likely started in the dry regions of northern Mexico. Scientists think they moved into central Mexico around 500 CE.

As they moved, they learned to grow maize. They also built big cities and used special writing. Some groups, like the Toltecs, ruled much of central Mexico around 1000 CE. The Toltecs are often thought to be part of the Nahua people. Later, other groups like the Mexica, also known as Aztecs, became very strong.

Many different groups belong to the Nahua family. The Mexica were the people who built the Aztec Empire. The Tlaxcallans were another group that lived in the same area. In the year 1501 CE, people from the Aztec capital were sent to Honduras. These people were called pochtecas, which means they were traders. They went to Central America to start trade with other groups.

This shows how the Nahua connected different parts of the world through business.

You can find Nahua people in many places today. Most live in Mexican states like Puebla, Veracruz, and Hidalgo. Because people move for work, there are even small Nahua communities in the United States. You might find them in cities like New York, Los Angeles, or Houston.

In Central America, groups like the Pipil and Nicarao carry on the Nahua legacy. Even though some of their languages are in danger, people are working to bring them back. The Nahua story is still being written by people all over the world.
