This area is made of four different districts. These districts are Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Netrokona, and Sherpur. The main city for the division is Mymensingh city. It serves as the headquarters for the whole region. Many people live in this part of the country.

This division has a very old story. Long ago, around the 4th century BC, it was part of a state called Mahajanapada. Many different groups ruled this land over the years. These included the Gupta Empire and the Sena Dynasty. Muslim rulers also led the area during the medieval period. Each group left a mark on the local culture.

The division we see today is quite new. In 1787, the British Indian government created a large Mymensingh district. Later, that large area was split into six districts. In 2015, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared the new Mymensingh Division. Some districts wanted to join this new division. Others, like Tangail and Kishoreganj, chose to stay in the Dhaka Division. The new division officially began on 14 September 2015.

There are many interesting facts about this place. The 2022 census shows that 12,225,498 people live here. Most people in the division are Muslim. In fact, it has the highest percentage of Muslims in all of Bangladesh. About 95.57% of the people follow this religion. Other residents include Hindus and Christians.
