Long ago, Christian missionaries arrived. They brought hymns, which are church songs. This changed the music. Native singing styles mixed with church songs. Brass bands also became a big part of the culture. Some old styles were even hidden for a time.

Many artists use old instruments. In Tonga, they use a nose flute. In Rarotonga, they use wooden drums. Some singers use new tools too. In Hawaii, musicians use the steel guitar. This helped start country music.

Today, there are many new styles. Some people make Pacific reggae. This uses a ukulele and island drums. There is also Urban Pasifika music. This mixes hip hop with island roots. Singers like Kalani Pe'a win awards for their skill. He sings oli aloha. These are chants of greeting and thanks. He even translates songs into the Hawaiian language.
