Music tells stories about love and war. It can also show deep faith. In the highlands, musicians are called azmaris. People respect them very much. They use special scales called qenet. These scales have five main notes.

Many tools make these sounds. The masenqo is a one-string instrument. The krar is a six-string lyre. You might also hear the washint, a bamboo flute. For rhythm, people use the kebero drum. Some use a large drum for church. Others use small drums for fun. Music is also for dancing. The Eskista dance uses fast shoulder moves. Some people do fast neck moves. Other dances use jumping or belly moves.
