During his time, the empire grew very large. It reached far across the Middle East.

Murad III spent most of his time in his palace. He did not go out to lead wars in person. This was different from many other leaders. He loved the arts. He paid for beautiful books with many drawings.

His rule was not always easy. The empire faced many long wars. One war with the Safavid Empire lasted 12 years. There were also money problems. New silver from the New World caused prices to rise. This made life hard for many people.

Murad III also talked with leaders in far lands. He sent letters to Queen Elizabeth I of England. They shared a common enemy in Spain.
