In 1377, a man named Ibn Khaldun wrote a book.

It is called the Muqaddimah. This word means "introduction." He wrote it in a quiet place.

He wanted to study how human society works. This was a new way of thinking.

He studied how groups stay strong. He used the word "asabiyyah" for this. This is a feeling of group unity. He said this unity helps empires rise. But he also said it can fade. When unity fades, empires may fall. This creates a cycle in history.

Ibn Khaldun also wrote about money and trade. He said labor is the source of value. This means work makes things worth something. He also studied how prices change. He saw that supply and demand set prices. If a good is rare, the price goes up. If there is plenty, the price goes down.

He even studied taxes. He said very high taxes can hurt an empire. This is because people may stop producing goods.
