This leaves over 80% of the original oxygen available in the exhaled breath. This residual oxygen is more than enough to enter the blood of the patient. 
Medical professionals can increase the efficiency of this process using oxygen therapy. While mouth-to-mouth provides about 16% to 17% oxygen, using a pocket mask with an oxygen flow can increase that to 40% or 50%. If a rescuer uses a bag valve mask or a mechanical ventilator with an oxygen supply, the concentration can reach 99%. A higher concentration of oxygen makes the gaseous exchange in the lungs much more efficient.
