Other tools include suction pumps, syringe pumps, and various drains. For patients with severe organ failure, specialized machines like continuous dialysis or an intra-aortic balloon pump may be used. For example, an adult ICU cost approximately £1,328 per bed per day in 2003–04. A neonatal unit cost £838, while a pediatric unit cost £1,702 per bed per day.
