Most live in warm water near reefs. They have long bodies and smooth skin.

These eels have a great sense of smell. They use it to find food. They eat small fish, crabs, and octopuses.

Some eels have sharp teeth for tearing. Others have flat teeth for crushing shells. They have a second set of jaws inside.

These inner jaws grab prey in the mouth. Then they pull the food down the throat. This helps them catch slippery food.

Some eels live in fresh water too. Most like to hide in rocks. They are very interesting fish to watch!
