People have big ideas about life. Some thinkers use pure thought to learn. They are called Rationalists. Others use what they see and feel. These thinkers are called Empiricists.

One man named Descartes used his mind to think. He said, "I think, therefore I am." He wanted to find what was true.

Other thinkers studied how people live together. They asked about laws and rights. This is called political philosophy.

Some people believe the mind shapes the world. This idea is called idealism. Others focus on the person. This is called existentialism.

These ideas help us wonder about everything.
