Models use their bodies to show an idea or a product. For example, a model might show how a shoe looks on a foot.

Long ago, people used small dolls to show new clothes. In 1853, Charles Frederick Worth started modeling as a real job. He asked his wife to model his designs. This was the start of fashion modeling. Later, models became famous. In the 1960s, models like Twiggy became household names. She even changed what people thought was fashionable.

By the 1970s, many new rules helped the job. Agencies began to help models find work. Some models became very famous and rich. Beverly Johnson was the first Black woman on the cover of U.S. Vogue in 1974.
