She has recorded more than 1,200 songs in eleven different languages. Her music is so popular that over 122 million of her records have been sold. People often call her the "Sparrow of Avignon." This name connects her to a famous singer named Édith Piaf. Mireille loves to sing, and she has a very strong memory. Because of this, she never needs a prompter to help her remember words on stage.

Her journey to becoming a star started with hard work and many small steps. Mireille grew up in a very large family with fourteen children. Her family lived with very little money in Avignon, France. To help her parents, she worked in a factory in a place called Montfavet. She used the money she earned from the factory to pay for her singing lessons.

She also had to study very hard in school because she had dyslexia. This made reading and writing a difficult job for her. Even when things were hard, she kept practicing her music.

In 1962, Mireille began entering local singing contests to show her talent. One contest was called "On Chante dans mon Quartier," which means "We Sing in My Neighborhood." The stage was small, only twenty feet square, and crowded with musicians. She did not win the first two years, but she did not give up. In 1964, she finally won the contest by singing "La Vie en rose." This big win gave her a trip to Paris and a chance to appear on television.

Once she arrived in Paris, her life changed very quickly. She met a man named Johnny Stark, who became her manager. He helped her become a huge star in France by the year 1968. He even helped her perform at the famous Paris Olympia music hall. At first, she tried to sing just like Édith Piaf, but that was a hard job. Later, songwriters like André Pascal wrote new, modern songs just for her. These new songs helped her find her own special way to sing.

Because of her success, Mireille has traveled to many different countries. She has performed in London for royal families, including the Queen. She also toured in Canada and the United States. While she was in Hollywood, she even met the famous singer Elvis Presley. She has also sung with other great stars like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
