This article covers sensitive topics: climate. Parents can manage visibility in Parental Controls.

Earth moves in ways that change our climate. These changes happen over thousands of years. A scientist named Milutin Milanković studied these patterns.

One change is eccentricity. This is how much our orbit looks like an oval. Sometimes the orbit is nearly a circle. Other times it is more stretched out. When the orbit is more oval, the distance to the Sun changes more. This affects how much sunlight we get.

Another change is obliquity. This is the angle of Earth's tilt. Our tilt changes slightly over 41,000 years. A larger tilt makes seasons more extreme. It gives more sun to the poles in summer.

Earth also has axial precession. This is a slow wobble of our axis. It takes about 25,700 years. This wobble changes which stars we see. It also changes when we are closest to the Sun.

These cycles work together. They change where sunlight hits our planet. This can lead to long periods of ice or warmth.
