Michael Eisner is a well-known American businessman. He spent many years leading large media companies. Most people know him for his long time at the Walt Disney Company. He served as the chairman and the chief executive officer, or CEO, there.

This top job lasted from September 1984 until September 2005. Before he went to Disney, he worked at other big places. He was the president of Paramount Pictures from 1976 to 1984. He also spent time working at major TV networks like NBC, CBS, and ABC.

Eisner helped the Disney company grow in many ways. During his time, the animation studio became very successful again. This special time is called the Disney Renaissance. He helped oversee hit films like *The Little Mermaid* in 1989. Other famous movies included *Beauty and the Beast* in 1991 and *Aladdin* in 1992. *The Lion King* also came out in 1994 during this era.

He also helped the company buy other famous brands. These included ABC, a large part of ESPN, and the rights to The Muppets.

Building new places for people to visit was another big part of his work. Eisner led the expansion of Disney theme parks all over the world. In 1989, Disney-MGM Studios opened in Florida. In 1992, Euro Disney opened in France. He also helped open Disney's Animal Kingdom in 1998. Other parks opened in places like California, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.

These parks were part of a big plan called "The Disney Decade." Some of these projects were very expensive or had low attendance. One project, Disney's America in Virginia, did not happen as planned.

Eisner's life began in Mount Kisco, New York. He was born on March 7, 1942. His family had a history of successful work. His great-grandfather, Sigmund Eisner, ran a clothing company. This company made uniforms for the Boy Scouts of America.

Eisner went to school at the Allen-Stevenson School and The Lawrenceville School. Later, he graduated from Denison University in 1964. He earned a bachelor's degree in English. He also spent time at the Keewaydin Canoe Camp in Vermont.

His final years at Disney were quite difficult. Some of the movies released in the early 2000s did not make much money. He also had public arguments with people like Steve Jobs. A group called "Save Disney" formed to protest his leadership. This group was led by Roy E. Disney.

The group wanted the company to change how it was run. Because of this pressure, Eisner decided to step down in March 2005. He handed his daily duties to Bob Iger. He officially left the company in September 2005.
