He was also a very busy creator who wrote many different stories. In fact, he claimed to have written at least 50 scripts during his life.

Cimino used his love for art to make his films look beautiful. He studied painting and architecture, which is the study of how buildings are designed. This background helped him understand space and design. Before making movies, he worked as a commercial director in New York. He made famous ads for brands like Pepsi, Canada Dry, and Kodak. One of his most famous ads, "Yesterdays," took six days to shoot. He used a huge amount of film to make just two minutes of video.

His career grew quickly in the 1970s. He moved to Los Angeles to start writing scripts for movies. His first job as a director was for the film Thunderbolt and Lightfoot in 1974. Many people thought this marked the end of an era for Hollywood. However, people have changed their minds about this film recently. Some experts now call it one of the greatest American films ever made.

Throughout his life, Cimino always had big dreams for new projects. He wanted to turn many famous novels into movies. Some of these included stories like Conquering Horse and The Fountainhead. He even wanted to make movies about real people from history. He had a very strong artistic vision that he never gave up. Even when projects were hard to finish, he stayed true to his ideas.
