Maturidism is a school of thought in Sunni Islam. It is named after Abu Mansur al-Maturidi. He lived a long time ago. This group is one of three main paths in Sunni Islam. It is linked to the Hanafi school of law.

People in this school value using the mind. They believe humans have reason. This reason helps people know right from wrong. They believe people can even find a creator by thinking. However, they also say people need help from prophets. Prophets bring special guidance from God.

This group has unique ideas about faith. They believe faith comes from the heart. Doing good things does not make faith grow or shrink. Instead, they say piety is what changes. They also believe humans have free will. This means people can choose their own actions. God creates the possibilities, but humans make the choices.

These ideas spread across many lands. They were important in the Ottoman Empire. They were also big in Mughal India. Today, many Muslims in Central and South Asia follow these ideas. It remains a very important part of Islamic history.
