His stories can be funny or very serious. He also works as an executive producer on film versions of his work. This means he helps guide how the stories move from paper to the screen. He was even named an MBE for his work in film and books.

Millar follows a specific way of working to make his stories successful. He decided to focus only on writing rather than drawing the pictures. A writer named Grant Morrison gave him this helpful advice long ago. This allowed him to spend all his time building great characters. He writes scripts that tell artists exactly what should happen in each scene. Then, he works with many different artists to bring those worlds to life. This teamwork helps create the famous look of his many comic series.

His journey started in a town called Coatbridge in Scotland. He was born on December 24, 1969, to a family with many siblings. His brother Bobby first showed him comic books when Mark was only four years old. He loved them so much that he once drew a spider web on his face! He studied hard in school, learning about chemistry, physics, and math. He even went to Glasgow University to study politics and economics before his career began.

Millar has worked for the two biggest comic companies, Marvel and DC. At DC, he wrote the famous Superman: Red Son series. He also gained fame writing The Authority for the Wildstorm imprint. Later, he moved to New York City to work for Marvel Comics. He wrote The Ultimates, which Time magazine called the comic book of the decade. He also wrote the Civil War series, which was a huge event for Marvel fans.

If you have seen a superhero movie lately, you might have seen his work. His story Old Man Logan helped inspire the movie Logan. The story Civil War inspired the film Captain America: Civil War. He also created Kick-Ass and Kingsman, which became popular movies and games. Some of his other series, like Jupiter's Legacy, also became shows. His work connects the world of reading to the world of cinema. This makes his stories feel even bigger to fans everywhere.
