Her journey began on the stage as a dancer. She worked as a chorus girl in Broadway musicals. Later, she became a featured performer in the Ziegfeld Follies. During these shows, she mostly focused on dancing. This was because she had a hard time with a stutter. She eventually moved into movies and became a major star. She appeared in many films like "Runaway Romany" in 1917. Her career grew very fast during the 1920s.

A newspaper tycoon named William Randolph Hearst helped her career. He owned many newspapers and newsreels. Hearst used his huge media empire to promote her. He even started a company called Cosmopolitan Pictures to make her films. He spent about $7 million to help her become famous. Because of this, she was called the "Queen of the Screen." By 1924, she was the top female star in Hollywood. This was thanks to hits like "When Knighthood Was in Flower."

Davies lived a very grand life in many beautiful places. She stayed at the massive Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. This place had Greek statues and very fancy rooms. She also lived in a beach house in Santa Monica. During the Jazz Age, she hosted huge parties for famous people. Guests included Charlie Chaplin and Amelia Earhart. These parties were full of Hollywood actors and leaders. She was a central figure in high society.

Some people later misunderstood her true talents. A famous movie called "Citizen Kane" featured a character named Susan Alexander Kane. This character was a singer who was not very good. Many people thought this character was based on Marion Davies. However, director Orson Welles defended her skills. He believed she was a gifted actress and a great comedienne. He tried to show the world that the movie was not a fair description of her.
