Andy Warhol made it in 1962. He used a way to print called silk-screening. This work shows the movie star Marilyn Monroe. Warhol used a photo of her from a film called Niagara.

The art has 50 images of the actress. The left side has 25 colorful images. The right side has 25 black and white images. On the right side, the images look blurry and messy. Some people think this shows the difference between life and death.

Warhol used a photo he did not own. This is called appropriation. He took an image and made it into something new. He had to settle a legal dispute about it. This work is very important to art history. One study named it the third most influential modern art piece. It is now kept in a place called the Tate.
