She lived a long time ago in the 1600s. Maria did not go to school like many people today. Instead, her parents taught her many subjects. She learned math, medicine, and many languages. She could speak seven different languages!

Maria wrote a very important book. It was called "Urania propitia." This book helped people find where planets are in the sky. Before her book, math for planets was very hard. It used a tool called logarithms. These tools made the math very slow and difficult. Maria made a new way to do the math. Her method was much simpler and had fewer mistakes.

Because of her great work, we remember her today. There is a crater on the planet Venus named after her. A small planet, called an asteroid, also has her name. In the town where she grew up, there is a statue of her sitting on a bench. She holds her famous book in her hand.
