Al-ʻIjliyyah was a maker of tools. She lived in the 10th century. Her home was Aleppo. This city is in northern Syria today.

She made astrolabes. An astrolabe is a tool used for astronomy. It helps people study the stars. Her father was also a maker of these tools. They both learned from a man named Nasṭūlus. He lived in Baghdad.

A leader named Sayf al-Dawla hired her. He was the first Emir of Aleppo. He ruled from 944 to 967. Some people call her Mariam. But the old books do not say that name. Her name also shows her job. It means she was an astrolabist. An astrolabist is someone who makes astrolabes.

We still remember her today. A large rock in space has her name. This rock is a main-belt asteroid. Henry E. Holt found it in 1990. It is called 7060 Al-ʻIjliya. She also inspired a character in a book. She is an extraordinary woman from the Islamic Golden Age.
